Description
Two faces of one landscape: the lushness of the rainforest and the raw power of the volcano that shaped it. This private tour weaves them together into a seamless day, with a naturalist guide dedicated to your party and a private vehicle waiting at every stop, so the day adapts to your interests and your pace.
The morning unfolds at Mistico, a private reserve on Arenal's slopes. Its trail of about 3.2 km links 16 bridges, six of them suspended, crossing deep ravines and lifting you into the treetops. Through your guide's spotting scope you will discover sleeping sloths, white-faced capuchins, hummingbirds, tanagers and perhaps an eyelash viper. At a relaxed pace, the full circuit takes around two hours.
After a traditional lunch, the scenery shifts. A guided hike of about an hour and a half leads to the volcano's main viewpoint, passing through secondary forest growing over the 1968 lava and onto the dark rock of the 1992 flow. From there, a sweeping panorama of Arenal's cone, the lake and Cerro Chato will leave you speechless.
Throughout the day, your guide shares how the 1968 eruption transformed the region, how forest reclaims bare lava and why Arenal ranks among the most biodiverse corners of the country. It is a serene, well-rounded experience, ideal for families with children, couples and nature photography enthusiasts.
