Description
Behind every cup of Costa Rican coffee there is a family, a mountain and generations of tradition. On this tour you will visit a family farm on the slopes of Monteverde, where cool temperatures, altitude and mist create ideal conditions for high-grown coffee with a bright flavor and rich aroma. It is a warm, authentic and delicious experience, perfect for discovering the most human side of the region.
The tour begins among the coffee plants. You will walk between the rows, see ripe cherry-red beans and learn how they are hand-picked, one by one, during harvest season. Your guide will walk you through the entire process: pulping, sun-drying, roasting and the art of brewing the perfect cup with the traditional Costa Rican chorreador, a cloth filter that many families still use to this day.
Next comes the sugar cane. At the trapiche, the cane is pressed to extract its sweet juice, which is then slowly cooked until it becomes tapa de dulce, a treasure of Costa Rican cooking. You will taste fresh-pressed juice and homemade sweets prepared the old-fashioned way. Finally, you will discover the magic of cacao, from the pod and its pulp-wrapped seeds to roasting, grinding and the transformation into chocolate.
The visit ends with a tasting of coffee, chocolate and farm products, accompanied by family stories and mountain views. It is an easy and flavorful activity for all ages, ideal for a rainy afternoon or as a delicious complement to your cloud forest adventures.
