Some canopy tours are about admiring the scenery; others are about feeling your heart in your throat. This one firmly belongs to the second group. Designed for travelers who want a serious dose of adrenaline, Monteverde's extreme circuit combines distance, height and variety like few places in Costa Rica.
There are 14 cables covering roughly 3.2 kilometers in total, with lines ranging from 40 to 750 meters; four of them exceed 425 meters and span entire valleys of cloud forest. Between platforms, wind, mist and birdsong create an almost surreal atmosphere, while bilingual guides keep you safe and cheer you on before every launch.
The star of the show is the Superman cable: close to a kilometer of face-down flight, suspended horizontally about 180 meters above the ground, arms outstretched as the forest unrolls beneath you like an endless green carpet. The thrills do not end there. After a short hike to an elevated platform, the Tarzan swing awaits, a free-fall leap that turns into a giant pendulum over the forest. You will also rappel down from high in a tree and race along a line that passes through a natural tunnel of vegetation.
