Description
Guanacaste is famous for its beaches and near-constant sunshine, yet barely an hour or so from the coast lies a completely different world. This private tour carries you from the golden lowlands up to the slopes of the Guanacaste volcanic range, where moist Caribbean clouds collide with the mountains and feed a lush, emerald rainforest. It is the most comfortable way to experience a tropical jungle without long hikes or punishing climbs.
With your bilingual naturalist guide, you will follow well-kept trails and cross hanging bridges that lift you toward the canopy, the upper story of the forest where most of its life actually happens. Up there it becomes far easier to notice what usually goes unseen: a sloth curled into a cecropia tree, a pair of keel-billed toucans, hummingbirds squabbling over a single blossom, a red-eyed tree frog tucked beneath a leaf.
Your guide carries a spotting scope and knows how to read the forest: the rustle that gives away a troop of white-faced capuchins, the tracks of a coati, ancient trees draped in bromeliads and orchids. Every stop becomes a small lesson in how this ecosystem works and why Costa Rica protects roughly a quarter of its land.
At midday you will sit down to a home-style lunch at a local farm, with hand-patted tortillas, beans, sweet plantain and highland coffee. In the afternoon there is time to cool off beside a crystal-clear river before heading back to the coast. It is a calm, unhurried day, ideal for families, photography lovers and travelers who want to see the rainforest up close without rushing.
