Description

If you want to pack all of Guanacaste's adrenaline into a single day, Hacienda Guachipelín is the place. This nineteenth-century cattle ranch on the slopes of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano still carries its sabanero soul in stone corrals and views of the steaming summit, yet today it is also one of Costa Rica's most complete adventure parks. Your private transportation takes you to the hacienda, where you join the park's activities led by certified guides.

The morning starts in the Río Blanco canyon, where zip-line cables stretch from wall to wall above the water. Between lines, treetop platforms, a hanging bridge and a rappel descent let you feel the canyon's drop from every angle. Then you switch elements: helmet and life vest on, you launch into tubing down the Río Negro, bouncing through splashy Class III rapids that spin you around and draw out plenty of laughter.

After all that excitement comes a breather on horseback. The hacienda's gentle criollo horses know the terrain by heart and follow trails through dry forest and open pasture, with the volcano always on the horizon. It is the best way to understand the cowboy culture that shaped Guanacaste's identity.

Lunch is served at the hacienda restaurant, hearty and home-style. In the afternoon comes the perfect finale: volcanically heated hot springs, a steam bath and mineral-rich volcanic mud that you spread on your skin, let dry in the sun and rinse away, leaving you feeling remarkably soft and renewed. You return to your hotel tired, happy and with stories to tell for the rest of your trip.
