Description
Behind Jaco's strip of coastline hides a vertical world of creeks, canyons and crystal-clear water that most visitors never get to see. The Explorer is your ticket into that territory: a half day of genuine mountain adventure where the constant rush of falling water becomes the soundtrack of the journey.
The experience begins aboard a 4x4 vehicle that climbs rural roads to about 2,000 feet above sea level. On the way up, your guide pulls over whenever something deserves a closer look: a red heliconia in bloom, a toucan perched high in a cecropia, a sudden window onto the Pacific between the trees. At that altitude the air feels cooler and the forest grows thicker.
From there, short hikes lead down to the riverbed, where more than ten waterfalls of all sizes follow one after another. Some spill into deep emerald pools perfect for a swim; others can be carefully scrambled, working your way upstream from one cascade to the next. For the bold, optional jumps of up to 20 feet await, always under the watchful eye of your guide, who also keeps your cameras and phones safe in a dry bag.
It is a wet, playful, nature-packed adventure, ideal for active families and travelers looking for something beyond the beach. After the final pool, you refuel with an included breakfast or lunch, depending on your departure, before heading back to Jaco cooled off, refreshed and grinning from ear to ear.
